Closet Organization
Who needs a shopping spree when you can simply re-organize your closet? You’ll find tons of stuff in there you completely forgot about! As you rotate your summer and winter styles, ask yourself a few basic questions. Does this item still fit well? Is the item still my style? Am I keeping this item for sentimental reasons only? These questions will help you decide what is important to keep and what can be donated to charity. Consider packing up sentimental items like wedding and bridesmaid’s dresses into a long term storage space like a guest closet, attic or basement, instead of having them take up space in your everyday closet.

Before: Too much furniture in a small space.
Sometimes too much is just too much! It’s tempting to accept hand-me-downs from friends and family, but then you must implement the 1 in 1 out rule. When 1 new item comes into your home, get rid of 1 old item. That way you’ll never hit a wall of clutter and you’ll have a constant rotation of items in and out of your house. In this case, my client was suffering from furniture overload and needed help with space planning. They wanted a living room with an area for watching television as well as an office area.

After: Simplified Living Room
Choose what items are most important to you and that fit the space the best. We switched out the old coffee table for one with a matching end table and are now using the old one for it’s intended purpose, a TV stand. By changing the orientation of the couch we have created a more intimate feeling living area. When your room is serving multiple functions, an area rug helps define the space visually and helps warm up the room. Even the dog loves it! You can also make more of an impact on the wall with your artwork by grouping smaller items with a larger focal piece.

After: A functional office area.
In the before picture above, the office area is made up of just a table top desk and a chair with no additional storage space. By flanking a desk with two book shelves you create visual symettry and functionality. Total cost of this living room/office makeover? ZERO dollars. You too can give your space a whole new look by simply rearranging. Call Erin for a free assessment today!
